MODEL BOAT HULL 3D PRINTED IN PLA

COMMENTARY:

This is one of our favorite models to show prospects and customers. Not just to show off the F410’s part quality, but also to share the capabilities and creativity needed to get the most out of a 3D printer.

Most would think that to print this type part, you would need a dual-head printer to attain this kind of print quality. However, it was a creative approach of how to align the print and creatively use supports, we were able to position the boat on its stern (rear) on the print bed and its bow (nose) in the air at a 70 degree angle with only a few supports propping the boat up, connected to the hull in the new flat areas that are part of the boat’s design.

The result is a clean, smooth hull and little use of breakaway supports. Watch the video below. The alignment we describe and the use of the supports becomes evident at the 2:00 mark.
